This can be interpreted in two ways 🧍‍♂️

A regular harmless squish of the cheek, in which I picked Yakumo because he's cute and I felt like drawing his fuckass bob

And a disrespectful squish of the other pair of cheeks. Obviously Edmond was the best candidate for this.

He's already planning a grand sorcericide. Unless the hand belongs to someone else

There's also a secret 3rd interpretation, in which I draw every clan member and their reaction to getting a cheek squish, but unfortunately my frontal lobe splitting headache doesn't allow me to put this much effort.....so allow me to just type it out in text for you: imagine you're Eiden

so this is an unpopular opinion i’ve always had of pucca since i was the biggest fan of the 2008 series that aired on jetix. i hope this isn’t a callout post because this isn’t the intention. i’m just discussing something that was actually very harmful to me as a young girl.

idk if it was because i had a crush on garu when i was little, but sometimes pucca annoyed the shit out of me. garu was the show’s punching bag in most episodes. he was forced to do things he didn’t want just to please pucca. even her uncles (dads?) would say “oh pucca he does like you, you just need to try a little harder”, but at least in this series garu never EVER showed that he liked pucca back. some of the original shorts did have garu giving pucca flowers and even an engagement ring made out of his sword (ngl if garu ever proposed to eight year old me i would cry). but in the 2008 series garu is constantly stalked and kissed without his consent in every fucking episode.

not exaggerating, pucca kidnapped garu SEVERAL TIMES but no one calls her out. i get she’s just a little girl in love, but everyone, even her uncles, encourages her to do the most inhumane things to get her crush’s attention, when he’s made it clear multiple times that he doesn’t like her that way. pucca often crossed the barriers of consent with garu. i mean look at this fucking photo. garu doesn’t want to be here.

the episode that pissed me off the most even as a eight year old was the movie theater one. garu wanted to watch a ninja action film but pucca went out of her way to sabotage the ninja film multiple times to put a dumb romantic film instead. okay first off why wouldn’t ninjas be romantic? i would definitely prefer to watch action ninjas with my crush than a dumb straight film. rip to pucca but i’m different.

no but this episode gets even worse. in the end pucca is mad that garu tricks her to watch the ninja film. for the sake of comedy even abyo and toby(?) get out of the session in fear of pucca. it’s supposed to be funny - and pucca is allowed to be angry with garu not wanting to see the film with her, when she’s the one who kept ruining his free time. like that would be a shitty thing to do with anyone in real life. at least i would fucking hate if someone forced me to watch a bad romantic movie instead of a cool ninja one.

she actually fucking TAPES GARU in the seat to watch the romantic garbage with him. that’s fucking torture. but the show frames it as funny and romantic.

yeah i know ppl will probably make fun of me for “making a callout post” on a ten year old, but like i said this always bothered me about pucca even when i was a little girl and i still didn’t have a lot of idea what healthy romance was all about. the pucca series was genuinely hilarious, i loved all the characters, even the villains. toby the ninja rival was the best villain of all time. but this aspect of the cartoon always had me uncomfortable, and i think it actually warped a lot of my views on romance.

actually now that i think of it, garu could definitely be aromantic (or aspec in general). i don’t remember garu crushing on anyone in this show - when he does, it’s either not the real him (like a clone or some guy disguising as him), or he’s under a spell of some kind. he never cared about romance. he liked fishing and fighting. literally when ring ring married a fake garu, the original garu was out of the town fishing, he doesn’t care about this shit at all. at least not the heteronormative romance kind. arguably garu is just a twelve year old boy who wants nothing but to be a ninja (valuing honor on top of everything), but even still, garu was never seen actively in love with anyone in the 2008 show. i could be wrong, but once again he never responded to any of pucca’s or ring ring’s or anyone else’s advances.
